The beautiful devotion to the Heart of Our Lord is meant to unite our hearts to His - to unite ourselves to His mission of redemption, restoration, and reparation. Have you ever asked Jesus the question, “What do you want from me?” Have you ever heard Him respond, “Your heart”? This is all that Jesus desires from us - our wholehearted love. But to always ask someone what they want from us is not a good basis for a healthy relationship. When you constantly ask God what He desires from you, it is all too easy to only see Him as someone who constantly demands and takes. Jesus, all-good, all-knowing, all-powerful - the wondrous Gift-Giver - desires us to be always in a state of receptivity, receiving His Love and Goodness. The question is not what He wants from us, but what He wants for us. It is His constant desire to give to His children. And it is only in receiving Love from Him that we are then able to give Him that which He wants - our love in return. “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the expiation for our sins.”
Practically speaking, one of the best ways to receive all that the Sacred Heart longs to give us is by enthroning the Sacred Heart in your home. By doing so, you make Jesus Christ the King of your home and the center of your family life. This ceremony takes place after a three-day period of prayers and preparation. After those three days, a priest (or the father of the family) enthrones an image of the Sacred Heart in a specially designated place, and they pray an Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (edited and published under Cardinal Burke’s guidance) is an excellent resource on the devotion to and enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
“May the heart of Jesus, in the Most Blessed Sacrament, be praised, adored, and loved with grateful affection, at every moment, in all the tabernacles of the world, even to the end of time. Amen” (from the Divine Praises).
